Product Introduction
(patent # 7276156)

Non-Point stormwater pollution of the Earth’s fresh water systems caused by decades of urban land-change-use practices has been well documented by numerous research studies worldwide. In order to sustain life and urban growth it is becoming more important to minimize the harmful affects on the environment caused by urban stormwater discharge.

A stormwater discharge is defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as rainwater or snowmelt runoff. These fresh waters become polluted as they flow over modern man-made structures like roads, parking lots, industrial sites, roofs, suburban lawns, etc. An abundance of suspended pollutants can easily ride piggyback on sediment particles and leaves in such water flows. Types of pollutants include road salts, calcium chloride, motor oils and fluids, rubber, lawn fertilizers and chemicals, E. coli from house pet feces, and many others.

Features

A plastic screen with circular outlet holes to be patently mounted to a catch-basin wall to encase an outlet pipe.

Advantages

Captures Debris
Captures Contaminated Sediments
Captures Floatables

Benefits

Provides your city with an inexpensive solution to stormwater pollution.

These non-point polluted waters are a known contributor to poor water quality levels in receiving streams that suffer fish kills, river bank erosion from suspended sediments, and other environmentally harmful side effects. In order to minimize non-point pollution the EPA and state governments are requiring municipalities to implement stormwater management programs.

Trash Guard, Inc. has developed a patented catch-basin trash screen for municipalities to have trash free stormwater discharge.

Trash Guard, Inc. offers three guard screen sizes for in-place or newly formed catch-basins that utilize discharge pipes of 24 inches or less in diameter. Each size screen can be adjusted at installation to accommodate low flow stormwater events of 10 cfs or more. Trash Guard offers a product screen sizing calculations computerized program that can assist engineers in selecting the correct screen size for a specific site.

Often in Phase I (cities with population of at least 100,000) and large Phase II municipalities available land is limited for green space, detention ponds, constructed wetlands and other traditional Best Management Practices (BMPs). With this limitation larger towns and cities can especially benefit by making Trash Guard an integral component in its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) management program.

Trash Guard Highlights
